i don't know where to go....

i'm quite stuck! this will be my third try on the short row heels of this elfine's sock - i've undone the heel twice already. i've read cosmicpluto knits very excellent tutorial but my problem is picking up the wraps! it gets all undone or i'm unable to grab the wraps and hold on to them...any advice? i'm in limbo now....in the meantime, i've finished a pair of mittens and have started fetching fingerless mitts.

In picking up the wraps, I first transfer the stitch with the wraps to my right needle & then pick up the wraps with the right needle again. Then transfer all 2/3 stitches back to the left needle & knit/purl together. This is an extra step but it helps to unwrap the sts & make knitting them together easier. Hope this helps.

thanks for the advice ann; by the way i love your blog! anyway - are you talking about two stitches, ie, after transfering the stitch with wraps to right needle, pick up wraps of next stitch with the right needle...otherwise how can i pick up wraps on the right needle with the right needle? am i thinking too much? can you tell i'm afraid to have another failed start....maybe when i get home i'll just try it the way i think and see what happens, and if it works hope i remember what i did! and if it doesn't.....

Sorry Debbie, can't help you with the short-row heels (I've yet to make those work) but the toe and foot of your sock look great! (Love the green too)

Another variation to the short row heel is in a book that can almost be found anywhere. Simple Socks: Plain and Fancy by Priscella A Gibson-Roberts. This is the heel I use when doing a short row heel and it uses YO's instead of wraps. It made more sense to me than the wraps. Good Luck!
