Another Toe Up
Thought I should make my life more complicated so cast on a lacy sock - toe up, of course. It's the Falling Leaves from knitty.com (Fall 2005) & what a pleasant surprise as I learnt a different method of shaping the toe - it's short row shaping but with yarn over - it was much easier than wrapping the stitches. The only thing that I am not very happy with is that the toe is a little too pointy for my liking. Anyway, I will try & adjust that when I use the method again. So take a look at my Falling Leaves .... I am using a 4ply handpainted merino from The Knittery - it's such a soft yarn & lovely to knit with. This yarn was leftover from a vest that I knitted so I hope I have enough for a pair!

starting again... starting small...
I'm trying the toe-up sock again. A Baby sock using this pattern I am on sock one, working on the heel. I still find the 'wrap' on the short row heel confusing for some reason... already had to rip it out once ... pictures as soon as sock one is completed.

It's so nice only working with 24 stitches.

My First Socks - My First Toe Ups

Yarn: Cherry Tree Hill Supersock - Wild Cherry
(2) 24" Addi Turbo US 01

I am having so much fun making my first pair of socks that I can't put them down now. The instep is the Waffle Rib from Sensational Knitted Socks. I love the Aloha Fan Toe and Queen Kahuna's No Wrap No Gap Heel. Check out the lovely gusset increases and the sexy short row heel. YEAH BABY!

I am a devout fan of Queen Kahuna's Crazy Toes & Heels book. I've followed it to a "T" and she hasn't lead me wrong yet. Now, this book isn't for everyone as it is VERY wordy, but it has lots and lots of COLOR illustrations that lead you baby step by baby step through the whole process of making 2 socks on 2 circulars either toe-up or cuff down.

...and the best thing is that I'll have a pair of socks when I'm done!!! No, Second Sock Syndrome (SSS) for me.

1st Short Row Heel!!
Yippee!! Yay! I am so happy I have gotten partly over my fear of the SRHeel..well until I do the mate to this sock LOL!

I put it off for a week (well I did knit other things) until I met up with a good friend on Sunday, who helped me immensely!

1st Short Row Heel

I did like the fit, and how the toe/heel fit so far. More details regarding this fit when I finally finish them!

A Knitting Record
My best friend's mum-in-law was visiting & when I found out that she was leaving in a week, I decided to knit her a pair of socks as a present. It was a hasty decision & I knew that I had to knit very quicky - I did - cast on Sunday morning & cast off Thursday night & the socks was given to her on Friday morning. Remembered to take a pic before giving them away .... These socks were knitted toe-up (using Wendy's method) as I really prefer knitting it this way as it's so fast & easy. The rest of the sock was knitted plain (due to time constraint) & the cuff is a Lace Ribbed pattern (again, with courtesy from Wendy). I used Opal Petticoat & really love the color altho' the stripes are not matching & 2.75mm Brittany dpns.
