Another pair done .....
I like this toe up sock knitting business . Short heels makes the heel turn simple .
I have a question though ..Is it possible to reinforce the Heels ...usually I do a sl1 ,k 1 row then a plain row ..gives a nice thick fabric on the heel .
IS there a way to do this with a toe up sock .
Any pointers .??

Well, I've been gone awhile, but I have finished all my other projects and am ready to tackle socks !! I'm going to try the magic loop method. I'll keep you updated.
Update #1 - None of the LYS around me have 40" Addis, so I had to order them, Mid-January is expected delivery date. They also did not have a copy of The Magic Loop, had to order from KnitPicks, waiting 2 weeks for that...So, I'll let you now mid-late January how it is going.Instead I will make a new purse :)

I'm back Ladies and I've made progress but can't firgure out exactly how to place the markers for the increase. I'm still trying to understand how to get all the measuring from QK's book so I can get this right. Any advice is welcomed.

Hi Tanya, you emailed me earlier today regarding socks for a 5yo. I replied to your email, but it bounced back. Please email me again if you'd like me to send you an invite to join this Knit-A-Long.
Thanks.
Happy holidays & happy knitting to all!

Hi there! I have been wanting to successfully tackle toe up socks for quite a while. I tried a while back and ended up with broken needles. I am hoping to relax through this attempt;) I learned a wrap technique from an Indian lady on a plane recently. I think it will do the trick. I'll post more when I get started.

I've got it and I couldn't do just one. I began with a larger yarn and needles to get the concept and then picked the Meilenweit Cotton Fantasy Lana Grossa and here are the pics. Thanks again to all of you who responded to my plea for help. I look forward to being done by next week. Yeah, pretty ambitious. We'll see how it goes.

Thanks so much to
Craftapalooza for your suggestion of Misocrafty's tutorial of the figure 8 Cast on. I have 2 different socks on the needles as we speak. I will post pics tomorrow as it is too late for the reciepents to model their toes. I'm so excited 'til my prescription cough medicine (that normally flattens me) isn't having it's usual effect. I feel like singing I'm so excited. Lalala...dedede.......yipee.
Auntly H. and Helen, thank you for your suggestions also. There's nothing like the kindness of knitters when one is in distress.
Isn't it wonderful when you figure out that technique!!!!!!!! I love my knitting. I sound a bit to giddy even for me. Good night all.

Hello fellow Knitters,
I have tried for the past 2 days to cast on from the toe. I have QK book and although there are pics, I'm just not getting it. I've also tried to figure out the figure 8 cast-on and I'm about ready to throw myself in the floor........seriously. In the QK's cast on I can see how she's doing the first 3 steps it's the 4th step I'm not getting. If anyone can de-mystify this for me I'd be eternally grateful.
Signed

Hi T.U.S. knitters! I started my first pair of toe-ups last week.
I am knitting the cabled version of
Widdershins. I started with
Judy's Magic Cast-on which worked well, but my 7" long dpns are too long! Now that I've finished increasing the toe, they work ok, but I need to find a shorter set. I learned how to
cable without a cable needle while making
Karen's Sugar-Free Socks and it comes in really handy on these.
Unfortunately, I haven't had enough bus commute time this week to get further, but things are moving along:

These are my second pair of toe up socks .Much better than the first ..got rid of those nasty holes along the heel ..
The pattern was Wendys generic sock one
These are made from :
Heirloom Sock Wool "Argyle " in a variegated blue /red shade ..
using #2.50 dpn ..this knits up as a tight, sturdy fabric .
I haven't been a sock knitter ..always getting stuck on the second sock (aka never knitting it )but now I have been struck by the sock bug ,..Toe up of course ..and have spent hours searching the net for patterns .
I think my next pair will be for me ..and green ..depending on what I can find here ( in country australia )

They are done! More pictures on my
blogI used the Magic cast on! I really like that one! My short row heels went pretty well. The second one I understood so much better. I already have the next pair in mind to do this technique with!
The only mod is that I had to decrease the top ribbing to 7 rows as this happened!
I am so glad I held off binding off my first sock, as I had to rob from it to finish the 2nd one! Thanks for looking! :)
